killBottleneck for Windows

Your organization's killBottleneck in its own window. Unlike a browser tab, Windows notifications reach you even with the window closed, the unread count sits by the clock, and the app starts with your computer — a new task or comment won't slip by just because your browser is closed.

Download for Windows

Windows 10 and 11 · 64-bit · no administrator rights · about 110 MB · What's new in the app

Inside the window is the same killBottleneck as on the web, loaded straight from your organization's server. New features therefore arrive with the server's new version and your data stays where it was. The app itself updates on its own only when the window around it changes.

Installation

  1. Download killBottleneck-Setup.exe with the button above and run it. It installs just for you (no administrator rights) and opens right away.
  2. Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" window. The app isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognize it. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Type your company name — just like when you sign in on the web. Your organization's address appears below the field. Then sign in with your e-mail and password, or with Google.
First start: the company name and, below it, the address the app will connect to.

Running your own server? Click Enter the address manually (your own server) and type its address, for example kb.mycompany.com. The app allows an unencrypted connection (http://) only on your company's local network.

What the app adds

  • Windows notifications for everything that lands in your killBottleneck bell — even with the window closed. Clicking a notification opens the app right where it points.
  • Unread count on the icon by the clock and on the taskbar.
  • Keeps running by the clock. The × only hides the window; to quit the app completely, use the menu of the icon by the clock (Quit). The icon may be hidden under the ^ arrow.
  • Starts with your computer. Turn it off in the icon's menu (Start when the computer starts).
  • Several organizations in one app — switch them in the icon's menu (Organization).
  • Updates itself. With the window hidden it installs a new version quietly; otherwise it offers Restart and update.

Notifications arrive within about a minute, and only from the organization you have open.

Links to other sites open in your default browser — the window only ever shows your organization's killBottleneck. A downloaded file goes through the usual Save as window; several files at once (such as a split PDF) go straight to your Downloads folder.

Privacy

The app collects no usage data. Besides your organization's server it only asks GitHub whether a new version is available, and downloads it from there. Your sign-in and settings stay on your computer. Details are in the privacy policy.

Uninstalling

Windows Settings → Apps → killBottleneck → Uninstall. Uninstalling also removes the app's sign-in and settings from your computer; your data on the organization's server stays.
