Archive
A finished project doesn't have to take up space on the home page forever — and deleting it would be a shame. The Archive hides it from the home page and the menus; nothing is deleted: the project can be opened, browsed and restored at any time.
Where to find it
On the Projects page, below the list of projects, there is an Archive (N) link — it appears as soon as you have at least one archived project (the /archive address).
How to archive a project
Four ways, all for the project's owner only:
- From the map: ⋮ More actions → Archive project. The app confirms Project archived — You'll find it on the Archive page.
- From the project card on the home page: the archive icon with the confirmation Archive this project? It disappears from the home page; you will find it in the Archive.
- After finishing: when you mark the last goal done, the map celebrates — All done 🎉 — All goals in this project are complete. Would you like to move it to the archive? — with an Archive button. The offer comes once.
- The assistant: “Archive the Kitchen project.”
What the Archive page holds
- Series — projects from numbered templates stay together as “{series name} · {year}”, ordered by sequence; a new year = a new series. Everything else is in the Other archived projects section.
- A card carries the icon, the title, N goals · archived {date} and the #project number badge. Hovering shows Restore from archive (only for whoever created the project).
- Search the archive (title or #number) — accents ignored;
#12and12both find the project by number. No match: Nothing in the archive matches "…". - An empty archive says: The archive is empty — Archive a finished project from the map menu or with the button on the project card. and offers Back to projects.
The project number is every project's sequential number — you see it on the project dashboard (Project number), in the map title's tooltip and here in the archive. Telling the assistant “open 12” is enough; it searches the archive too.
Restoring from the archive
- On the Archive page: hover the card → Restore from archive.
- In an open archived map: a This project is archived banner with a Restore button sits above the map; the same is in ⋮ as Restore from archive. The app confirms Project restored from archive and the project returns to the home page.
- The assistant: “restore the Kitchen project from the archive”.
An archived project in the map
The archive only hides the project from the home page and the menus (the project pickers in Tasks, on the phone, in the assistant). The map opens normally and can still be edited — handy for adding a note or an attachment after closing. The “All done” offer no longer shows for an archived project and its tasks don't light up in My day.
Limits
- Only the project's owner archives and restores it (restoring from the card in the Archive is for whoever created it).
- The Archive page loads at most 200 archived projects (newest first).
- The org-structure map has no project number and cannot be archived; importing a map from a file doesn't keep the number (it gets a new one).
- Archiving is not deleting — to get rid of a project, delete it from the card on the home page.
